OVERVIEWThe self-stirring cooking pot is part of a group project, which sought to develop a product line that would work to preserve the legacy and raise awareness of the work of the late designer and artist Viktor Schreckengost. The products strive to encompass the essence of Viktor Schreckengost as if he were alive today designing them himself. If persued for production, all profits from the sales of these products will go to the Viktor Schreckengost Foundation.
Viktor Schreckengost An industrial designer, artist and professor Viktors designs included trucks, bicycles, furniture, industrial equipment and dinnerware. His peers included designers Raymond Loewy, Norman Bel Geddes, Eva Zeisel, and Russel Wright. According to scholars Viktors influence ranks with his peers, but had a quieter career in Cleveland doubling as a professor of design at the Cleveland Institute of Art for over 50 years. The breadth of Viktor's work is very extensive. According to the Viktor Schreckengost Foundation, “Every adult in America has ridden in, ridden on, drunk out of, stored their things in, eaten off of, been costumed in, mowed their lawn with, played on, lit the night with, viewed in a museum, cooled their room with, read about, printed with, sat on, placed a call with, enjoyed in a theater, hid their hooch in, collected, been awarded with, seen at a zoo, put their flowers in, hung on their wall, served punch from, delivered milk in, read something printed on, seen at the World’s Fair, detected enemy combatants with, written about, had an arm or leg replaced with, graduated from, protected by, or seen at the White House something created by Viktor Schreckengost”.
Brand LanguageAfter researching Viktors work, process and potential competitors we developed the basis for a brand language, which would further inform our designs. Centered around the essence of Viktor, which we established to be reach, are attributes consisting of the adjectives expressive, pragmatic, accessible and individual. From that point we distinguished three different subgroups of the product line and established a hierarchy of the attributes, which would dictate the importance of each in the form and function of the final design within that subgroup.
